Join Gambier City Lions now

To Join a Lions Club, is by Invitation, but applications are encouraged from all members of the community.

Membership is open to men and women over the age of 18 years and of good moral character and reputation.

Potential members are invited to and hosted at two dinner meetings by the Club to enable them to become aware of the way in which the club operates and the range of activities covered.

Club members and a club sponsor will also talk with the potential member about the Club, its organisation and activities and so forth. Whilst not a formal requirement potential members are also urged to participate in an activity if possible to get the feel.

The Club Sponsor will then guide them through the formal application process if they wish to proceed.

Once a formal application for membership is received it is initially considered by the Club's Membership Committee.
This may include a meeting or interview with the member.
This committee then makes a recommendation to the Club Board on the application.
Once approved by the Club Board the applicant is then advised of the meeting at which they will be inducted.

In their induction new members are asked to accept membership in Lions knowing:

  • that they are encouraged to participate in functions of the club; and,
  • that they to the best of their ability will;
    abide by the Lions Code of Ethics,
    attend meetings whenever possible; and,
    contribute their share to the programs of their club, district and Lions Clubs International.

All new members are provided with a Lions Badge, Cap, Polo shirt, Car sticker, Membership certificate and general information on Lions. In addition they receive the club handbook and a quantity of Club business cards for personal use.

They also then have that privilege to proudly serve their community as a member of Lions.
